My sister and I were discussing the magazine “Penny Power” of our youth. Wondering if it was still around, I went to my trusty friend, the Interweb and found this instead:<\/p>\n

A penny power “try-it” – they have badges for brownies now!<\/div>\n

Ooh, remember girl scout badges? I do! I loved them – combining my obsession with collections and my do-goody-tracy-flick ways<\/a>. Girl scout badges (in case you’re a boy or just, you know, clueless) gave order to the world. You followed instructions on one page of a handy manual and ta-da, you were an expert in … whatever. Scrolling through the page<\/a>, I was shocked to find … many of the badges were the same as the ones in my youth like this one: computer fun!<\/p>\n

\"Computer<\/a>This hi-tech beauty promises that computers will be big now and in the future! You can tell by the basic code so helpful to kids in the 1970s and now alike! (To be fair, the Girl Scouts now have “Internet Safety” “Computer Communications” and a slew of other more modern computing badges).<\/p>\n

This all got me thinking though: I wish we could bring back badges now. Wearing your list of accomplishments on your sleeve (or sash) was pretty great. You had a feeling of accomplishment – check check check, I’m a model citizen. Check, check, check, I’m an expert in Caring for Children.<\/p>\n

So, faithful readers, what Girl Scout Badge would you like to see? What ones have you earned? I guess the column on the right of this page is kind of my new updated girl scout sash. I am hoping to earn my gold star in blogging any minute now.<\/p>\n
