so today’s commute was interesting. first, a disclaimer, between job 1 (actual job), job 2 (union) and trying to prepare for vacation next week, I’ve been a little…. under-motivated shall we say to… work, shall we say? So on my way in today I literally stopped to smell (and snap photos of ) the flowers, for a “tulips I’ve known and loved” set I’m putting together. (Mike or Dave in the NL, feel free to send me some via keukenhoff and forgive the spelling)…<\/p>\n

Anyway, after meandering slowly down the dupont escalator I see a dreaded thing: clustering at the foot of the escalator.<\/a><\/p>\n

Stepping around the masses (seriously, folks, you really think that’s a good place to stand?) and going to the leftest-most left (my spot: step OFF) I see an even worse thing – stopped trains and workers with flashlights going every which way. This train is NOT going to be moving anytime soon. So back up the escalator I go, and several more tulip-shots later, I make it to Farragut North just as the train is about to shut doors. I run on board, sit down in a nice empty car, feeling quite pleased and begin my quest to finish the Express crossword puzzle by Judiciary Square.<\/p>\n

I’m doing all right – half the clues done (oh *I* get it – “sweet alternative” – different spellings of cane! cool!) when I notice, wait, did he just say “woodley park zoo” – yes, yes he did. I’m going the wrong way.<\/p>\n

Two WMATA reps hear me and start telling me how to get back the right way. I have to embarrassingly confess that I know exactly where I am and just how off course!<\/p>\n

Back past Dupont Circle (one more time folks!) and into work only a little past 10, and a lot of embarrassment later. I finished the puzzle though.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
