How can I tell anyone they didn’t win?

3) Despite my snarky, grumpy, vitriolic side (grr), I genuinely do believe and see the good in everyone /everything. Awww. Really, I loved loved loved EVERY entry I got.

For these and other reasons, while the contest was FUN FUN FUN, I should have realized picking a winner would be… challenging, or as we say at my place of work, a Learning Opportunity.

Anywho, that coupled with travel and work demanding I do work has contributed to my delay in posting results. Also, I’m a giant slacker/ champion excuse-maker.

But I love you people, my loyal ‘logger friends, so…. I pushed past these Issues and am ready to announce The Winner of Washwords First Blogger Contest.

And the Winner is….

Gee, I still can’t decide. The thing is ErinCarly actually found me of her own accord and is a real live photographer I might never have had the pleasure of seeing otherwise. And she and Softloungeblog both correctly called me out for dissing the Commonwealth, plus Softlounge makes a darn fine point about the whole taxation without representation thing and captures the hearts of many with his love of baseball and its return to the city. Soupy Meg is a longtime pal, hillarious laugh-out-loud blogerette and not only one of my first readers, but the one that made me decide to tell people about the blog, a darn fine idear – but Soupy, you didn’t send a picture! I LOVED the colors in WhatLizSaid‘s 4th of July photo and what she said about people who call the city transient. FamousDC took the word of one caaaarrazzy tipster and devoted some prime real estate to my little blog, which I loveeeed, plus the title of their entry (“We Better Win This Contest”) I’ll admit kinda scared me, but to be fair, they entered after the deadline, and while I judged after my own self-imposed judging deadline, the rules don’t apply to me, just everyone else. (Duh!), plus they nominated themselves for best blog you don’t know and uhhh, we know them.

So, in sum, everyone’s a winner, at least the 19 of you who entered this Historic Moment in Washwords History, and as such you will all be getting a prize, the WASHWORDS Guide to Washington DC, just as soon as, you know, I get that together, but only one (1) of you can be a little bit MORE equal a winner, THE winner, 2008 Washwords winner is…. (drumroll) ….

HERB OF DC!!!!!!!

Hooray Herb! Why Herb, you ask, as you storm out of the room in a huff? Nope not because he called me his bloggy crush. (Hey, I have a bf mister!) or finagled me into some weird Fridge contest which got me enraptured in some freaky fridge fetish group. Nope, Herb won because I felt each answer most reflected the spirit of Washington DC and the spirit of this blog, snarks AND larks, what we love even while we hate. His secret was a real true secret (to me), his photo well maybe technically wasn’t the best but was the one I felt best embodied we live in this cool amazing tourist/political/ important historic place, we LIVE here! Also he entered on time, followed all the rules, and won eenie meenie miney mo, when things got rough. Seriously, it was a tough contest. Congratulations HERB!!!!!

What does he win? Well now you’re really gonna hate him: a gift certificate to one of my not-so-secret favorite Washington spots: Ben’s chili bowl!!! It’s in the (e)mail, Herb.

Those of you who aren’t Herb and put aside your jealousy long enough to keep reading to the end, fear not: in addition to the compiled set of your recommendations/bests/worsts etc., I happened to have secured an extra prize or two. I’m already thinking of my next contest to heavily promote and then lose interest in… stay tuned!!!!

Coming soon: the blogs you say we all need to read!

Okay, so now you’re learning some of my secrets. 1) I LOVE love LOVE starting projects!
