Outing myself

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful comments on all sides of the to anon or not to anon issue. I agree with… well… all of you on the reasons to and not to come out of the bloggycloset. I’m still mulling it, but one of the things I’ve had in the back of my mind is that for those who WANT to find me, it’s not that tough. In fact a little less tough then I realized when a certain (old media) blog directory listed Washwords in its newfangled blog directory, much to my delight, and then… MUCH TO MY HORROR!!!!!, my full name alongside it. No worries, thought I, I’ll just use this handy-dandy “click here to email” mistakes thingy – but Read the rest of this entry »

Share your DC knowledge/love/hate for prizes!

Attention all DC’ers: bloggers, photogs, neighbors, friends – if you’re in DC (or okay, just this once, the greater DC area. yep, even you orange_liners), consider this your battle call. Here’s what I want tout suite (yep, demanding, but there’s PRIZES involved):
1) one reason why you LOVE DC.
2) one thing you hate/snark/whine/mock about DC (can’t think of any? me either, try virginia)
3) A DC favorite or secret (can be a restaurant, a deal, a park, an intersection, you name it)
4) your favorite DC photo (own the rights please! that means you took it)
5) one DC blogger we might not know about.

Okay, so I’m demanding, So I’m giving you till the end of the month! May 31, 11:59 p.m.

How Where What? Huh?

So typically this is done with a blog post. While I’m probably already stalking you if you’re here, it can’t hurt to send me a short email, tag your photo “washwords” in flicker or for:washwords in del.ic.io.us (fear not if you don’t know what the heckily I’m talking about, just shoot me an email). BUT washwords is an equal opportunity contest promoter so…

Don’t live in DC? You can play too if you have DC knowledge! Sit tight, if not. There will be more contests and most won’t require anything at all, let alone all this work!)

Don’t have a blog? Shoot me an email. Include all the stuff I mention here. Don’t have email? Well, hmm. That’s gonna be tougher. I’ll work on it.

While clearly, I can’t play for prizes (and they’re gonna be good), I will be posting the entries starting with mine on a separate page here. Coming SOON!

Good luck! May the best blogger/photog/writer/READER win!

sometimes my blog writes itself

work sends emails that make me laugh out loud sometimes all the time. What follows is today’s but for those who don’t like to read, here’s the bottom line: 1) the email we sent you ISN’T SPAM. DON’T DELETE IT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. and 2) (ha ha ha ha, that this is point 2,) : the infomation in said EMAIL THAT YOU ARE NOT TO DELETE is incorrect. please disregard it until further notice.

Here it is (and nope, I’m not even sayin what’s wrong with the grammar/spelling/syntax/plain English here (but hint: subject/verb agreement) :

In this week’s <newsletter>, we announced that our travel agency, z, would be sending you a pin number to access your Traveler’s Profile. Unfortunately, their parent company sent the email under their name, x, rather than under y, z, or p. This resulted in employees thinking they had received spam. These emails are not spam, they are bona fide emails from y that contain your pin number and password. Please do not destroy them.

On a separate note [me: HA HA HA], we have discovered that the passwords and pin numbers are not working and are we are working to resolve the issue. Please do not try to use them until p can fix the problem. In next week’s <newsletter>. we will announce when you will be able to access your profile using the pin number and password that were emailed to you. Please keep a copy of these emails for future reference.
