lost at home

so today’s commute was interesting. first, a disclaimer, between job 1 (actual job), job 2 (union) and trying to prepare for vacation next week, I’ve been a little…. under-motivated shall we say to… work, shall we say? So on my way in today I literally stopped to smell (and snap photos of ) the flowers, for a “tulips I’ve known and loved” set I’m putting together. (Mike or Dave in the NL, feel free to send me some via keukenhoff and forgive the spelling)…

Anyway, after meandering slowly down the dupont escalator I see a dreaded thing: clustering at the foot of the escalator.

Stepping around the masses (seriously, folks, you really think that’s a good place to stand?) and going to the leftest-most left (my spot: step OFF) I see an even worse thing – stopped trains and workers with flashlights going every which way. This train is NOT going to be moving anytime soon. So back up the escalator I go, and several more tulip-shots later, I make it to Farragut North just as the train is about to shut doors. I run on board, sit down in a nice empty car, feeling quite pleased and begin my quest to finish the Express crossword puzzle by Judiciary Square.

I’m doing all right – half the clues done (oh *I* get it – “sweet alternative” – different spellings of cane! cool!) when I notice, wait, did he just say “woodley park zoo” – yes, yes he did. I’m going the wrong way.

Two WMATA reps hear me and start telling me how to get back the right way. I have to embarrassingly confess that I know exactly where I am and just how off course!

Back past Dupont Circle (one more time folks!) and into work only a little past 10, and a lot of embarrassment later. I finished the puzzle though.
