Blogging, momisms, connections, oh my!

Welcome to the blogosphere. If you’ve found this page, congrats! If you’re confused (mom), fear not, lots of us are! But no need to be alarmed – while overwhelming, the blogosphere is fun for all (if a tad bit overwhelming!)

Need Blog 101. You may want to watch this. Ready for advanced beginner? Here’s a few things to know to get started…

1) Everything on this main page (washwords) and its sub-pages (the tabs at the top of the page) is written, produced, edited by me, washwords. Some of you know me (and I begged you to stop by); others are just happening through (and therefore probably know a lot about blogs already), so shhhh. I’m going incognito for a bit.

2) The main page where you’re reading this has a list of clickable links starting with this snippet of “posts” by me. A “post” is a micro-essay – think journal entry or log. To the right of the posts, you’ll see a few tools to help you read more:

  • See that “cloud” in the sidebar column of words? Each of those words is a topic or category. Click on it and you’ll see all my posts in that topic.
  • To the right of that, you’ll see links for how to contact me or subscribe to me. Subscribing means you can be updated everytime there’s a new post. Yipppee!
  • You’ll also see ways to search the blog, an archive (and clickable calendar) of past posts and at the way bottom of the page (but top of my heart) links to other friends and fellow bloggers I know (or don’t) and love.

2) The best way to find out more about this blog (or any blog) is clicking around on anything clickable. There’s no right or wrong way and I LOVE feedback so write me, comment (using the comment boxes, particularly if you like it), subscribe and tell your friends and enemies!

3) But wait, there’s more. If you’re new to this, items 1 and 2 could keep you busy for a week. But come back, or for superstars in advanced astro-blogging… check out the rest of the blog: Starting with… the “tabs” at the top of the page:

  • Who: will tell you (duh) who this washwords person is. Well, kinda. Again, some of you know exactly who I am (mom!) but some of you don’t, so shhh. I’m going incognito. The page tells you more about why.
  • Connect: Tells you the many ways to contact me, friend me, twitter me, subscribe to me. Yep, these are all real things and they’re not dirty! But… if you’re new, skip all that for now and just stick to emailing me.
  • The Momisms and Snark Vs. Lark pages are mini-posts on particular subjects: moms and well, life. Check them out. They may turn into spin-off blogs of their own. Snapshot is a link to a cool slideshow of a few of my favorite pictures (taken by yours truly). Hopefully, I’ll be adding more.

Thanks again for reading and PLEASE send me comments on content, design, the headaches this blog is giving you or the tears of joy. While this post was lengthy (and just scratches the surface), there’s no rules, so explore, have fun and let me know what you think.

ditor’s note from Washwords: One of the copyright violaters who’s stealing my stuff without attribution follow. (I left it here so all it would know.

[…] Who: will tell you (duh) who this washwords person is. Well, kinda. Again, some of you know exactly who I am (mom!) but some of you don’t, so shhh. I’m going incognito. The page tells you more about why. […]

Editor/author again Dear “Car sites”: I don’t mind the auto-reply-publizing your own site but attribution please. Otherwise, it’s, you know plagarism and that’s bad. Thanks. Here’s how it’s SUPPOSED to work (thanks poplife): poplife

    Cheers! washy!

Hey-I am over the top frustrated with the Blog I set up on Blogger. In the vast amounts of time I’ve wasted I came across an email you sent earlier about an error message when you tried to edit-if you got that resloved would you help a fellow Washingtonian out and tell me how to contact them??!
    Thanks

Hi Leslie, My advice… honestly? Switch to wordpress.com. You can import all the content. It’s easier, more widget-able, and just… better. Then, when you’re ready, switch further to wordpress.org and host yourself.

WordPress has customer service, more active/helpful forums, and just is easier/better IMHO. and you can contact people!

Because NO i never got in touch with anyone directly at google/blogger. Weird because they are so great at other things. When I had a google analytics problem, it was fixed about a minute after i sent my email.

anyway, that’s my two cents. switching to wordpress.com is pretty easy actually. took a lot less time than i wasted coming through support files looking for someone to email like you did!
